Readings

before she was me

that girl who gave life a twirl,

that girl who wore her hair in curls.

that girl who lived day to day,

that girl whose birthday is in May.

that girl before she was me,

her eyes were closed, she couldn’t yet see.

your lips

i traced my finger all around,

until your lower lips, my finger went down.

i tasted your heart,

a sweet, but sad part.

and if that hadn’t been the last time,

you wouldn’t be here in my rhymes.

tomorrow

tomorrow brings sorrows,

i not yet know.

tomorrow brings happiness,

i can’t yet see.

tomorrow brings tears,

for all the pains i have yet to endure.

tomorrow brings hope,

a promise of not today.

go where your heart fears

lean into the places

that whispers your name endlessly.

lean into the places

that you fear.

that’s where the growth happens.
